CounterintelligenceCounterintelligence is the spread of false information to enemy personal in order to misguide or mislead their future actions. The Americans were well known for their use of counterintelligence against the British, during the Revolutionary War. Men such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Enoch Crosby were very successful in their execution.

ExecutionGeorge Washington:
George Washington used counterintelligence against British General Henry Clinton, convincing Clinton that he was going to invade New York City when in reality he was headed to Yorktown (1). Benjamin Franklin: Benjamin Franklin used counterintelligence against his secretary and courier, whom he discovered were British spies (3). Enoch Crosby: Enoch Crosby was the first spy to work in counterintelligence. Crosby assumed the identity of an escaped loyalist and replayed information he gathered back to the American troops (5). |
